Step 1: Open the box
Step 2: Open the coco peat cake (growing medium used in both trays). Place the coco peat cake in a large container.
Step 3: Add 350 ml (1.5 cups) of filtered water to the container. The coco peat cake will expand. Mix well. Ensure there are no lumps in the expanded coco peat.
Step 4: Add the coco peat to the jute trays. Flatten the surface with your palm (a flat surface helps seeds sow).
Step 5: Open the seed packs and sprinkle seeds evenly on the surface of the growing medium. Ensure there are no seed clusters as seed clusters could result in mold and poor germination.
Step 6: Fill the aluminum spray bottle with filtered water. Spray water generously on the seeds. For the first 3 days spray water on the seeds twice a day to keep them moist.
Initially keeping your microgreens in darkness by covering them with a thick paper or plate will encourage them to grow taller. We suggest keeping them away from light until they grow to around 2-3 cm (0.8-1.2 in) in height. Once they reach this height place them by a windowsill, on the kitchen counter, or any well-lit place until they are ready to harvest.
Step 7: On day 4 place the jute trays on a plate or a tray. Add 125 ml (0.5 cups) of water to the tray or plate. Do this twice daily (every 12 hours). Keep doing this for 3-4 days and you will have fresh and nutritious microgreens.
When the microgreens are tall with bright, open leaves, they are ready to harvest. Use the trimmers to cut the stems just above the soil, wash thoroughly, and enjoy.
Microgreens deliver their highest levels of enzymes and nutrients when they are eaten immediately after harvesting. If storing is necessary, make sure they are dry and stored in an airtight container. When stored properly, your microgreens should last up to one week in the refrigerator.
