Microgreen growing kit with fresh greens

Growing Microgreens Indoors This Fall: Fresh Greens in 7–10 Days

The tomatoes are done, the planters are coming inside, and the garden beds are going quiet. But growing season isn't over — it's just moving indoors.

Fall is the perfect time to start growing microgreens. These tiny seedlings pack more nutrients per bite than their full-grown counterparts, they grow in about a week, and they ask for almost nothing: a windowsill, a little water, and a tray to grow in. No grow lights, no greenhouse, no experience.

Here's how to do it.

What you'll need

A microgreen kit takes the guesswork out — seeds, growing trays, growing medium, a mister, and a cutter, all in one box. Our large kit includes four seed varieties (broccoli, radish, basil, and arugula) so you can taste your way to a favorite. If you're assembling your own setup, you'll need seeds, a shallow tray, a growing medium like coco coir, and a spray bottle.

Step 1: Prep your trays

Soak your coco pellet cakes in water until they expand fully, then crumble the medium evenly across your jute germination trays. The jute trays are breathable, which keeps the roots happy, and they're reusable for up to 18 months.

Step 2: Sow the seeds

Sprinkle seeds densely and evenly across the surface — much denser than you'd plant outdoors. Microgreens don't need elbow room; they grow as a carpet. Mist them well with your sprayer.

Step 3: Mist twice a day

This is the whole job. Mist morning and evening to keep the medium damp but not soggy. Place the trays on a bright windowsill — no special lighting needed, though more light means sturdier greens.

Step 4: Watch them grow

You'll see sprouts in 2–3 days. Broccoli and radish are the fastest and most forgiving if this is your first round.

Step 5: Harvest in 7–10 days

When the first true leaves appear and the greens are 2–3 inches tall, snip them just above the medium with scissors or a microgreen cutter. That's it — dinner.

What to do with them

Toss them on everything. Arugula microgreens turn a basic sandwich into something worth talking about, basil microgreens are a cheat code for pasta night, and radish microgreens add a peppery bite to grain bowls. Our kits come with chef-created recipe cards if you want a starting point.

Keep it going all winter

Stagger your plantings — start a new tray every few days — and you'll have a rolling harvest through the darkest months of the year. When a tray is spent, the jute and coco medium go straight in the compost. Nothing wasted.
